This no cost professional development activity for school and district administrators, counselors, and Title IX coordinators will convene experts in the field of educational equity, and culturally responsive teaching practices to share current research on the effects of culturally responsive teaching, strategies to create welcoming school communities, and preventing and countering behaviors that target students based on their race, sex, national origin, disability and sexual orientation. Each organization will share information that schools and districts can use to develop and/or modify school policies and procedures to reflect current laws and best practices that protect each student and improve accountability of district staff.

Topics to be presented
  • Conditions that Support Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning Practices
  • Key Components of Educational Equity to Ensure Civil Rights Compliance
  • Successful Strategies for English Learners, with a Focus on Parent Communication
Training Goals:
  • To develop educator awareness of the equity issues that exist in public schools that persistently place culturally and linguistically diverse students at risk academically and socially
  • To work with educators in aligning policies and procedures to strengthen academic achievement and build partnerships to improve student outcomes
  • To prevent and resolve tension based on race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or sexuality identity, and disability
Training Objectives:
  • Educators will understand the importance of creating culturally responsive school communities
  • Educators will understand the key components of educational equity and how to align practices and procedures with federal and state expectations
