Event Description

In this five week, five module, asynchronous online course conducted through Canvas (not Zoom), participants

This course effectively combines the many interlocking concepts of positive communication and relationship building, social emotional learning, strengths-based teaching, fostering optimism and a growth mindset.

Through a review of research, didactic information, and interactive role play scenarios with virtual students, learners will gain the awareness, knowledge, skill, and self-confidence needed to build rapport and encourage resiliency and growth in their students. Participants will also practice how to communicate with families and caregivers to partner more effectively in supporting student mental and behavioral well-being.

Finally, participants will be asked to apply their learning in a short, written exercise where they identify a challenging relationship or teaching scenario and then outline a plan for addressing it using the strategies and approaches presented in the course.

The class is limited to 35 participants per cohort. Registration closes at 12 pm on Friday, December 1, 2023. A confirmation email will be sent from Canvas to the first 35 registrants. Additional opportunities to take this course will continue to be offered throughout the school year. You do not need to be a current Canvas user to participate in this course.

Note: This course qualifies for Southern Oregon University’s School Mental and Behavioral Health micro-credential. If you are interested in receiving SOU credit for participating in the SMBH micro-credential program, please click here for more information.
