Event Description

Covers Section 504, disability civil rights, and district obligations set forth by the Rehabilitation Act and the US DOE’s Office for Civil Rights. This training targets core concepts including general educators’ role in assuring nondiscrimination, providing a free appropriate public education, and participating in 504 teams.

Target Audience:
General educators including teachers, administrators, specialists, and classified staff.

Instructor:
Marinda Peters, PhD (she/ella) is a Civil Rights Specialist at the Oregon Department of Education. In her role, Marinda specializes in rights and obligations under Title VI, Section 504, and Title II of the ADA. She comes from 17 years of working in public education as a Professional School Counselor, Behavior Coach and 504 Coordinator. Marinda has an MA in Counseling Psychology from Pacific University and earned her PhD in Counseling in 2017 from Oregon State University.
