Tribal History/Shared History: A Place-Based Approach

Back

Event Details

Participants will grow in their equity literacy and comfort level around engaging with Tribal History/Shared History (TH/SH)  lessons. Using the available resources, they will adapt and implement a TH/SH lesson relevant and applicable to their region.

This learning opportunity will provide participants with foundational knowledge about Oregon's Native history.  Participants will also build the understandings and mindsets needed to effectively teach Tribal History/Shared History lessons in ways that:

  • Affirm the Tribes’ purpose in creating the lessons
  • Bring local Tribal perspectives and a “place-based” focus
  • Utilize resources created by local Tribes
  • Critically evaluate curriculum materials
  • Do not appropriate or create harm

Priority will be given to educators in the South Coast ESD region.

Schedule:

  • August 5th & 6th, 8:30am to 12:00, via ZOOM

Compensation: Two, 3.5 hour sessions: Stipend of $350. 100% ATTENDANCE REQUIRED TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR COMPENSATION (Note: to receive compensation, you must belong to one of the SC2V REN's 31 school districts.)
