– the knowledge and skills coupled with the courage and conviction to promote each student’s motivation, learning, and increased achievement.

Module 1 is a prerequisite for all additional Modules.

Module 1 – The Knowledge Base of Teaching (1 day)
This module is an overview of the organization of the knowledge base as it is described in The Skillful Teacher (Saphier, Haley-Speca, Gower, 2018) text. This session will include a survey of the eighteen areas of performance that a teacher must attend to in everyday instruction within four categories: curriculum and lesson planning, motivating students, delivering instruction, and managing a classroom.
Participants will develop an understanding and be able to apply the three key concepts of area of performance, repertoire, and matching.
 
Objectives

  • Explain the purposes and functions of the knowledge base of teaching
  • Explain the concepts of “areas of performance,” “repertoire,” and “matching” and how these three concepts define professional knowledge
  • Expand/refresh your repertoire of teaching strategies 
  • Continue to develop cultural proficiency in the context of our schools and classrooms.


Who Should Attend: Teachers, Administrators, Instructional Coaches, Teacher Leaders, and Mentors
When:  Wednesday, August 7th, 2024
Where: Klamath Community College 7390 S 6th St, Klamath Falls, OR   (Classroom 6108)
Time:  9:00 am -4:00 pm 
Cost: There is no fee for Module 1 for employees of SOESD or SOESD's 13 component school districts.
 $99 for registrants outside Jackson/Josephine/Klamath counties.
