Section 504: In-Depth Overview

Event Details




Covers Section 504, disability civil rights, and district obligations set forth by the Rehabilitation Act and the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights. Using case scenarios, this training targets core concepts including nondiscrimination; identification, evaluation, and placement; the role of the 504 coordinator/case manager; engaging the 504 team, and associated Oregon laws including those related to the abbreviated school day program (ASDP; Senate Bill (SB) 819 and SB 1558).

Open to any Oregon: 504 coordinators, 504 case managers, district and building administrators, student services directors, school counselors, and school nurses



Instructors:
Marinda Peters, PhD (she/ella) is a Civil Rights Specialist at the Oregon Department of Education. In her role, Marinda specializes in rights and obligations under Section 504, and Title II of the ADA. She comes from 17 years of working in public education as a Professional School Counselor, Behavior Coach and 504 Coordinator. Marinda has an MA in Counseling Psychology from Pacific University and earned her PhD in Counseling in 2017 from Oregon State University.
