Event Description

This in-person Connect Postvention training is offered through a partnership between School Safety and Prevention at Northwest Regional Education Service District and Tillamook School District.

Connect Postvention Training helps service providers and school officials respond in a coordinated and comprehensive way in the aftermath of a suicide or any sudden death. Recommended participants include school and district administrators, law enforcement, EMS, mental health providers, school counselors, flight team/crisis response leads, members of the Tillamook County Suicide Prevention Coalition, clergy, and others who would like to be involved in planning postvention response to a suicide death in the county.

Connect Postvention Training covers:
  • Best practices on how to coordinate a comprehensive and safe response to a suicide
  • Strategies for reducing the risk of contagion
  • Review of the complexity of suicide-related grief, especially for different age groups
  • Recommendations for funerals and memorial activities
  • Best practices for safe messaging about suicide and responding to the media
Those who attend this training and live or work in Tillamook County will be invited to join a larger conversation and collaborative planning session on county postvention efforts in February.
