Connecting the Science of Reading to the Science of Instruction: Explicit Core Instruction for ALL Students

Instructor: Barbara Steinburg, PDX Reading Specialist

Event Description: In this two day workshop, educators will understand how the brain learns to read, what goes wrong when students don’t learn, and what type of instruction is most likely to work the best for the most number of students.

Event Objectives: Educators will: 

  • Learn the neuroscience of the reading brain.
  • Dig deep into phonological awareness
  • Develop an understanding of Alphabetic Principle (decoding)
  • Understand the interconnectedness of reading fluency and comprehension

Who Should Attend: K-2 Teachers, Coordinators, Coaches & Specialists (anyone who teaches literacy)

What Should Attendees Bring: laptop, water bottle
