webPD Universal Design for Learning (UDL) 101 - Term I 2024/25

Event Details

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is NOT a program or curriculum. Rather, it is an approach to curriculum design that can help address the challenge of meeting the needs of ALL students. UDL is an especially valuable framework for helping students with disabilities excel in a general education classroom. Additionally, applying UDL Guidelines during core literacy instruction increases effectiveness for all learners, as recommended in Oregon's Early Literacy Framework.

Please note this class is intended for educators who work in a classroom.

In this five week, five module, asynchronous online course, conducted through Canvas (not Zoom), participants will
  • Be introduced to the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) educational framework
  • Gain an understanding of the basic principles of UDL, how to implement a variety of UDL strategies, how UDL complements and supports other educational and social initiatives, and, hopefully, improve your own teaching practice to benefit a wide variety of diverse students
  • Understand Universal Design for Learning and how it benefits ALL students
  • Express the importance of considering your students’ diverse needs when you are designing lessons
  • Understand how goal-based planning opens the door for choice and inclusion
  • Apply the UDL Guidelines to lesson design and instruction
  • Learn how the UDL framework and guidelines support and complement equity, anti-racism, culturally-responsive teaching and differentiated instruction
Registration closes at 12 pm on Friday, September 27th, 2024. Everyone who registered in PDNetworks, and made it into the course, will receive an email that includes the Canvas enrollment link and instructions for enrolling in the Canvas webPD course from an SOESD administrative assistant the Thursday before the course begins.

Note: You do not need to be a current Canvas user to participate in this course.
