Fall 2024 Introduction to Structured Literacy (Phonics Instruction Strand)

Back

Event Details

This series is for paraeducators which includes titles such as IAs, EAs, TAs, and Paras. Generally, any classified instructional position.

In this four-part series, we will examine the elements of structured literacy lessons. These lessons teach word recognition skills (phonics) explicitly, systematically, and cumulatively. You may already be teaching structured literacy lessons since most schools have an adopted phonics curriculum which uses a structured literacy approach.

You will learn about:
  • English spelling patterns
  • Common elements of structured literacy lessons
  • Specific lesson examples of how to teach
You will also have multiple opportunities to practice instruction with colleagues and receive feedback to improve instructional practice.

If you would like to have more of an understanding of the research behind these instructional practices, consider registering for the series offered before this one - Introduction to the Science of Reading (Background Knowledge Strand), offered Tuesdays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22. You are, of course, welcome to register for both.
