2024-25 Focus:  Productive Classroom Discourse

Are you looking to enhance student engagement and deepen learning in your science classroom? The Oregon Ambitious Science Teachers Community is a professional learning group designed to help educators implement Ambitious Science Teaching strategies, with a focus on a new topic each year. This year, we’re exploring productive discourse in the classroom—how to create safe spaces for students to share their ideas, ask questions, and engage in meaningful scientific discussions.

As part of this community, you’ll collaborate with fellow teachers from across Oregon to:

• Set and achieve a SMART goal to improve discourse in your classroom(an example will be given to participants)
• Share strategies for fostering student dialogue and critical thinking
• Problem-solve challenges and celebrate successes
• Explore tools, such as questioning stems, group norms, and relevant discussion prompts

If you're passionate about improving student discussions and ready to take your science teaching to the next level, this is the group for you! Together, we can create classrooms where students feel confident sharing their unfinished thinking and engaging in rich scientific discourse.
