SWEL Community of Practice #1

Instructor: Rosa Diaz-Avery, EL Specialist

Event Description: Participants will be introduced to the SWEL (School-wide English Learning) model which is a school-wide system for supporting English Learners throughout the school day.  Participants will be given tools to assess their EL needs, create an action plan on how to implement SWEL and will be provided with strategies focused on leveraging academic language learning in content area classes. 

Event Objectives 

  • Teams will see that the SWEL model is personalized, relevant, engaging intentional continual and cost-effective
  • Teams will capitalize on the expertise of their ESL/ELD teacher as a peer coach/leader for content area teachers 
  • The ESL/ELD teacher will be given the tools to be a peer coach to their content area colleagues

Who Should Attend: ESL/ELD Teachers, Administrators who oversee curriculum, district leaders, EL Coordinators, Instructional Mentors/Coaches

What Should Attendees Bring: Laptop, pens, paper, water bottle, a positive attitude
