Blind Visually Impaired Student (BVIS) Fund Tech Time
BVIS Tech Time is a time for TVIs (and others) from across the state to connect, collaborate, and discuss all things tech. We start each meeting by discussing whatever is top of mind for attendees. After our open discussion, there is a brief presentation on that month’s focus topic. We cover various topics on the use of Assistive Technology for blind and visually impaired students.
This month’s focus topic will be Bare-Bones iPads for BLV Students. iPads keep getting more accessible, yet somehow using iPads in schools is getting more difficult! Many of our favorite apps have switched to expensive subscription models, and strict IT-security rules can prevent us from installing the apps we want, especially on short notice. In this session, we’ll see how far we can push a bare-bones iPad, using only built-in apps and features, to complete common daily tasks for blind and low vision students.
