Special Education In-Depth: Interpretation Services & Best Practices

Join for a practical session designed to support educational staff in working effectively with interpreters throughout the special education process. Participants will explore the critical differences between interpretation and translation, and gain strategies for partnering with interpreters to ensure clear, accurate, and culturally responsive communication with families. This session will highlight best practices for interpreter use in IEP meetings, evaluations, and parent communications, with a focus on fostering inclusive and collaborative partnerships.

Whether you're new to working with interpreters or looking to refine your approach, this session offers tools and guidance to support meaningful participation of multilingual families receiving special education services.

Note: If you attended Interpretation & Translation in the IEP Process in November 2025, you are welcome to attend this session, but note that some of the content may overlap.

K-12 Special Education Teachers, Specialists, Case Managers, Related Services Providers, or any other licensed/administrative staff supporting the IEP process.

Instructor:

Carlos Tenorio Hughes. Carlos has 24 years of translation and interpretation experience, with specific expertise in the legal, business, medical, and education sectors. He has a certificate in special education interpretation from the University of Georgia. Carlos has also worked as a teacher and school principal in the Ciudad de México at a British Council language center. He also has a degree in business administration.
