IEP Refresher: Annual IEP Meetings - Tips & Best Practices
Build confidence and clarity in your IEP meetings. This practical refresher highlights effective strategies for planning, facilitating, and documenting IEP meetings while centering collaboration, compliance, and student-focused decision making. Participants will gain actionable tips for engaging families, managing common challenges, and ensuring meetings run smoothly from preparation through follow-up.
Participants will be able to:
- Identify required components and legal considerations of compliant IEP meetings
- Apply best practices for pre-meeting preparation and meaningful family participation
- Use facilitation strategies to support collaboration, manage challenges, and stay on agenda
- Strengthen documentation practices, including meeting notes and Prior Written Notice

Instructor:
Malory Turner serves as the Special Education Professional Learning Coach, Traumatic Brain Injury Liaison, and Regional Technical Assistance Provider at NWRESD. She collaborates with educators, specialists, and district leaders to provide high-quality professional learning and technical assistance focused on special education processes and IEP development. Malory was recognized with the Noel Connall Instruction and Professional Development Award from the Oregon Education Association for her instrumental role in developing and delivering exceptional special education training and resources. She holds a Master’s in Special Education from Pacific University and brings nearly a decade of experience as an inclusion assistant, special educator, and mentor teacher supporting students with disabilities across a range of settings.
