Specially Designed Instruction, Services, & Placement

Join us for the fourth session of the IEP Foundations training series, where we’ll take a deep dive into several key sections of the IEP. While participation in previous IEP Foundations sessions provides helpful context, it is not required to attend this session. Participants are welcome to join even if they are attending for the first time. This session will not be recorded.

This session will focus on understanding and documenting the Service Summary, Specially Designed Instruction (SDI), and outlining appropriate Related Services. We’ll also cover how to effectively write and align Supplementary Aids and Services, including Accommodations and Modifications, as well as Program Modifications and Supports for School Personnel.

Additionally, participants will learn how to write a strong Non-Participation Justification, eligibility requirements for Extended School Year (ESY) services, and make informed decisions around Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and Placement Determination.

Instructors:

Profile Picture of Malory Turner, NWRESD Special Education Professional Learning CoachMalory Turner serves as the Special Education Professional Learning Coach, Traumatic Brain Injury Liaison, and Regional Technical Assistance Provider at NWRESD. She collaborates with educators, specialists, and district leaders to provide high-quality professional learning and technical assistance focused on special education processes and IEP development. Malory was recognized with the Noel Connall Instruction and Professional Development Award from the Oregon Education Association for her instrumental role in developing and delivering exceptional special education training and resources. She holds a Master’s in Special Education from Pacific University and brings nearly a decade of experience as an inclusion assistant, special educator, and mentor teacher supporting students with disabilities across a range of settings.
