Event Description

IEP Refresher: Specially Designed Instruction

Clarify what truly counts as Specially Designed Instruction and strengthen alignment between IEP goals and daily instruction. This refresher supports special education teams in distinguishing SDI from accommodations, differentiation, and general supports. Participants will explore how SDI is designed, delivered, documented, and monitored to ensure students access the general curriculum and make meaningful progress toward their IEP goals.

Participants will be able to:

  • Define Specially Designed Instruction and explain how it differs from general education supports and accommodations
  • Identify examples of adapting content, methodology, and delivery of instruction as SDI
  • Align SDI services with PLAAFP statements and IEP goals
  • Determine appropriate SDI service minutes, providers, and locations
  • Strengthen documentation and progress monitoring practices to support effective implementation and compliance
