Event Description

Session 5: Reflect and Refine (In-Person Half-Day), 9:00-12:30

Phase 5: Reflect and Refine (Features 9-10: Celebration and Reflection)

Learning Objectives:

  • Implement systematic reflection practices for continuous improvement and growth
  • Create sustainable systems for transformative teaching practice
  • Transfer learning to one’s own practice in realistic and sustainable ways

Learning Lenses and Approaches

  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Integration: Every tool and strategy is designed with UDL principles, ensuring accessibility and effectiveness for diverse learners, including students with disabilities, English language learners, and those from varied cultural backgrounds.
  • Designer’s Mindset: Participants learn to approach lesson planning as designers, using empathy, ideation and iteration to create more effective learning experiences.
  • Equity & Culturally Responsive Practices: The framework explicitly addresses psychological safety, identity affirmation, and culturally sustaining pedagogy as foundational to all learning.
Cognitive Science and Neuroscience of Learning: All strategies are grounded in current research on neuroscientific and cognitive principles, including memory, attention, motivation, and learning, making the "why" behind effective practices explicit.
We're going to close out this series with celebration, reflection, and a lesson design showcase (like a fashion show, but for lesson planning).
