Cost: $100 for Clackamas and Multnomah County, $150 for others (Clackamas ESD will send payment request after workshop)

At this full day training (8 am - 3 pm), K-12 Teachers will experience Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC) math practices.

Across the US and in Oregon, there is growing teacher enthusiasm around BTC practices. In a BTC classroom, K-12 students work on math tasks in collaborative teams. Fifteen years of research backs up these approaches: students engage more, learn more, and get excited about math.

Oregon K-12 Teachers are welcome to this event, hosted by Clackamas ESD Math Specialist, Lori MacKenzie

You will:
  • Personally experience a BTC activity, in the role of a student
  • Learn about BTC Practices in "Toolkit 1"
  • Visit at least two BTC classrooms
  • Ask students and educators questions about the impacts of BTC

Notes:
  1. This event will be hosted at Gardiner Middle School in Oregon City.
  2. Lite bites, coffee, and tea will be provided in the morning. We will have gluten-free and vegetarian options available for lunch. If you have other strict dietary restrictions, we encourage you to bring snacks or other food items to make sure your personal needs are met.
  3. Because we will visit classrooms, this workshop is limited participants. If this event fills, additional workshops will be offered.
