Administrator and TOSAs: INTRO to Building Thinking Classrooms In-Person Workshop

Back

Event Details

Join Estacada School District Administrators and TOSAs for a fun-filled day learning about Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC) math practices.

Across the US and in Oregon, there is growing teacher enthusiasm around BTC practices. In a BTC classroom, K-12 students work on math tasks in collaborative teams. Fifteen years of research backs up these approaches: students engage more, learn more, and get excited about math.

The morning portion of the day will focus on an overview of the research behind the 14 practices. We will focus specifically on the "First Tookit" (Engaging tasks, random groups, and verticle whiteboards). Later in the day will focus more on how to best support educators with implementing BTC practices.

All participants will be provided lunch and may choose one item:
~K-12 Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics Book (orange)
~K-5 Building Thinking Classrooms TASK book (green)
~Set of 10 Wipebook surfaces

We invite Administrators and TOSAs to this event, hosted by Lori MacKenzie, Clackamas ESD Math Specialist

You will:
  • Personally experience a BTC activity, in the role of a student
  • Learn about the research supporting these practices
  • Visit at least two BTC classrooms
  • Ask students and educators questions about the impacts of BTC
  • Hear guidance about how to best build and support BTC efforts in your school/district

Notes:
  1. This event will be hosted at a North Clackamas school - TBD.
  2. Lite bites, coffee, and tea will be provided in the morning. We will have gluten-free and vegetarian options available for lunch. If you have other strict dietary restrictions, we encourage you to bring snacks or other food items to make sure your personal needs are met.
  3. Because we will visit classrooms, this workshop is limited participants. If this event fills, more workshops will be offered later in the year.
  4. This workshop is geared to administrators and/or TOSAs / Coaches. Please check out other options for K-12 classroom teachers on PD Networks.
