Event Description

Please join us for a Professional Development session with the Multnomah County Regional Technical Assistance Provider (RTAP). During this 90-minute session, participants will learn best practices in Supporting and Empowering Instructional Assistants in Special Education.
Objectives for this session:

  • Describe the essential roles and contributions of instructional assistants in special education settings.
  • Identify effective supports, training, and coaching strategies that empower paraprofessionals.
  • Develop plans to include paraprofessionals in school-based teams and curriculum training.
  • Recognize the importance of career pathways for paraprofessionals who wish to become teachers.
  • Access high-quality resources to build paraprofessional knowledge and skills.

The Office of Enhancing Student Opportunities (OESO) and the Oregon Association of Education Service Districts (OAESD) established a collaborative partnership in the 2025-2026 school year to support each Education Service District (ESD) to deliver regional professional development and targeted technical assistance to Local Education Agencies (LEA) at no cost to school districts. Professional development units (PDUs) are available to all attendees.

This partnership established the Regional Technical Assistance Providers (RTAPs) within each ESD service area. The RTAP delivers personalized in-person and virtual support to district leaders and Special Education staff.

This session is part of a monthly series with the RTAP. These sessions occur on the first Thursday of the month, 4:00 - 5:30 PM, beginning on October 2, 2025, ending on June 4, 2026. First Thursday sessions will be virtual via Google Meeting. Presenter slides will be shared the day prior to the training.
