Mitigating Problematic Sexual Behavior within K-12 Student Populations

Instructors:  Shelley Rutledge, School Psychologist

Salem-Keizer Public Schools (24J) created the Sexual Incident Response Committee (SIRC) to address problematic sexual behavior (PSB) within their K-12 community.  Together, Salem-Keizer Public Schools and Willamette ESD operate a regional SIRC system that serves school communities in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties.

Key Course Content:

  • A survey of research specific to problematic sexual behavior (PSB) in children

  • How brain development influences sexually abusive behavior in adolescents

  • How sexual harming behavior can correlate with disability

  • Using the SIRC protocols to establish intervention, supervision, and support plans to mitigate sexual harm

  • The intersection between the SIRC process and district sexual harassment and Title IX policies

  • Pornography, nude image sharing and teaching consent: how schools can influence personal safety and healthy sexual development

  • Various labs and audience participation exercises addressing a full spectrum of PSB across K-12 settings

Who Should Attend: School psychologists, special education program leads, school admin, school social workers, school counselors, behavioral specialists and school resource officers.
