Disability Visibility: An Educator Book Study

Event Description
Disability Visibility, edited by Alice Wong, is an anthology of essays, poems, and writings by disabled authors. It centers disability justice, sharing firsthand stories on intersectionality, healthcare, online communities, and rights advocacy. The collection aims to increase visibility and challenge societal misconceptions about disability.

Event Objectives
  • During our sessions, we will review selected essays from this collection and engage in group 
    discussions about the readings.
  • Participants will work collaboratively to develop a shared understanding and establish a common language and approach to disability, in general, but specifically when working with students and parents.
  • CONTENT ADVISORY: This volume includes accounts of traumatic experiences such as sexual assault, neglect, and abuse.

licensed and classified educators

Compensation 
$150, this includes the $50 book AT LEAST 85 % ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED FOR COMPENSATION. (Note: to receive compensation, you must belong to one of the SC2V REN's 31 school districts.)https://www.wesd.org/educator-services/ren/faq#fs-panel-8602 

ALL applicants will initially be put on a waitlist. Sign up by January 30, 2026. You can expect to hear if you have been offered a spot or waitlisted by February 02, 2026.
