Event Details

Event Description

This two hour virtual session equips district leaders with the foundational knowledge and tools to manage emerging risks from synthetic media. Participants will learn how deepfakes are being used in schools, including bullying, sexual abuse, sextortion, misinformation, and AI-generated voice cloning that can be weaponized in vishing or reputational attacks. They will also gain clarity on the legal landscape, including federal and state laws like the TAKE IT DOWN Act. Finally, leaders will explore the emerging tension between a school’s social media and deepfake safety as well as the concrete steps schools can take to navigate that tension effectively.

Through interactive activities, teams will:
● Draft key elements of a deepfake policy tailored to the school’s culture
● Work through crisis-readiness scenarios and communication challenges
● Explore strategies for partnering with parents on deepfake safety

Outcomes: District leaders leave with an understanding of deepfake risks, policy considerations, guidance on engaging parents, and key incident response steps to consider before an incident.

Format: Hour one is the presentation, and hour two is devoted to group workshop activities.

District Leadership Teams are encouraged to join together to collaborate on your guidance/ policy for the second half.
