You are invited to attend our Train-the-Trainer Seminar focused on welder qualifications for the AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Welding Code.

This Seminar is specifically designed to help instructors meet the Oregon Department of Education’s Industry Recognized Credential (IRC) requirements. Participants will gain the expertise and materials needed to qualify students at their own facilities.

Seminar Description

This comprehensive, two-day seminar is designed for welding educators seeking to implement Industry Recognized Credentials within their programs. Participants will master the procedures for performing welder qualifications to the AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Welding Code.

The goal of this Seminar is to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and Oregon Department of Education Industry Recognized Credentials, empowering instructors to qualify their own students and elevate the technical standing of their welding programs.

What You Will Learn

  • Code Navigation: Deep dive into the AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Welding Code requirements.
  • Welding Procedures: Understanding Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and how they apply to
  • student testing.
  • Performance Qualification: How to properly set up, supervise, and document a welder qualification test.
  • Visual Inspection Criteria: Training on how to evaluate weldments based on "Pass/Fail" criteria.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this training, participants will:

  1. Possess the technical knowledge to conduct in-house welder qualification tests to AWS standards.
  2. Receive a complete "Instructor Tool-kit" containing templates for welder qualification forms, inspection guides, welding procedure specifications, inspection tools, etc.
  3. Be fully prepared to meet the ODE’s requirements for welding IRCs.

Seminar Details

  • Duration: 2 Days (16 Hours Total)
  • Format: 40% Classroom Theory / 60% Hands-on Lab Application
  • Location: Portland Community College-Rock Creek
  • Required Equipment: Participants should bring their standard PPE (Hood, gloves, jacket, and safety glasses) for the lab portion of the training.
