This professional development program is designed to equip high school educators with foundational multimedia skills for both personal creative growth and classroom integration. Participants will develop practical competencies in visual design, digital media creation, and storytelling using industry-standard tools, while exploring strategies for adapting these skills into student-centered learning experiences.

Program Learning Outcomes

By the end of the three-day training, participants will be able to:

  1. Apply design principles to create effective visual and multimedia content.
  2. Use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create and edit basic digital graphics.
  3. Edit short-form video using Adobe Premiere Pro.
  4. Demonstrate and understand basic multimedia workflows.
  5. Support student creativity through project-based multimedia learning.

Day 1: Orientation, Visual Communication, and Digital Design Foundations

Learning Objectives

  • Understand fundamental principles of visual communication.
  • Create raster and vector graphics using Adobe tools.
  • Produce classroom-ready visual assets.

Module 1: Orientation and Visual Literacy (30 minutes)

Topics Covered:

  • Program goals and expectations
  • Overview of multimedia in education
  • Visual literacy and communication.

Instructional Activities:

  • Group discussion on current classroom media use.
  • Analysis of effective and ineffective visual examples / graphic design.

Activities:

  • Participant introductions and expectations
  • Discussion of multimedia already used in classrooms and in the world today, with a focus on its use in social media

Module 2: Principles of Design (45 minutes)

  • Color theory and contrast
  • Typography basics
  • Layout and composition

  • Guided visual critique
  • Design principle identification exercise

  • Image correction and enhancement
  • Text integration

Hands-On Project:

  • Design a classroom poster, announcement, or instructional graphic

Module 4: Adobe Illustrator Fundamentals (75 minutes)

Topics Covered:

  • Vector vs raster concepts

  • Typography and alignment
  • Exporting graphics for print and digital use

Hands-On Project:

  • Create a logo, icon, or visual identity element for classroom use

Module 5: Reflection and Classroom Application (30 minutes)

Day 2: Video Production and Digital Storytelling

  • Ethical media use and copyright considerations

Module 2: Adobe Premiere Pro Fundamentals (90 minutes)

Topics Covered:

  • Interface and timeline navigation
  • Timeline editing
  • Importing and organizing media
  • Basic editing techniques (cutting, trimming, sequencing)
  • Titles and simple transitions

Activity:

  • Guided edit using provided video footage

Module 3: Audio and Visual Enhancement (60 minutes)

Topics Covered:

  • Audio levels and clarity
  • Music and narration best practices
  • Basic color correction
  • Exporting video for classroom and web use

Module 4: Independent Video Project (60 minutes)

Project Options:

  • Classroom introduction video
  • Lesson teaser or explainer
  • Student project model
  • School announcement or promotional clip

Module 5: Sharing and Pedagogical Reflection (30 minutes)

Activities:

  • Optional project sharing
  • Discussion on student-centered video assignments

Day 3: Multimedia Integration and Classroom Implementation

Session Length: 4–5 hours

Primary Software: Participant-selected Adobe tools

  • Develop confidence supporting student multimedia projects.

Module 1: Multimedia Workflow and File Management (30 minutes)

  • Project planning and workflow design
  • Choosing appropriate tools for learning goals
  • File organization and storage

Module 2: Capstone Multimedia Project (120–150 minutes)

Project Description: Participants create a comprehensive multimedia project relevant to their instructional context.

Module 3: Classroom Translation Workshop (45 minutes)

Activities:

  • Develop a student multimedia assignment
