Enroll in this 3-day training designed to introduce educators to the field of Cybersecurity, learn some teaching techniques to apply Cybersecurity knowledge, and have an opportunity to apply your learning in a project. 


Day 1: Core Cybersecurity Concepts

Description: Introduces foundational cybersecurity principles designed to promote safe digital practices and career interest for students and teachers. Topics include the CIA (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability) Triad, the Defense in Depth principle, adversarial thinking, simplicity in security, and cyber ethics. 

Learning Outcome: Attendees will be able to describe the core principles governing each of the foundational cybersecurity principles.
Seminar Project: Attendees will brainstorm, pick a topic, and begin building their Day 3 teaching demos

Day 2: Techniques and Resources for Teaching Cybersecurity

Description: Discusses techniques, methods, and best practices for teaching cybersecurity in the classroom for high-school aged learners. Introduces digital resources which can be used in the classroom such as free, pre-built curriculum from the CLARK Center, hands-on labs on various platforms, and other resources. Includes information and recommendations for utilizing State funding and local pathways to build a cybersecurity module or program.

Learning Outcomes: Attendees will be able to utilize the existing cybersecurity education ecosystem to integrate cybersecurity topics into new and existing curriculum and classes.

Seminar Project: Attendees will continue to develop their Day 3 teaching demos.


Day 3: Cybersecurity Ecosystem, Wrap-Up, and Teaching Demos

Description: Introduces local organizations which develop, drive, and promote cybersecurity education as well as similar federal programs. Reviews and concludes the core topics covered on Days 1 and 2, highlighting links between core cybersecurity concepts and available instructional technology. Time will be provided for classroom observation of NW Cyber Camp classrooms, a 9-12th grade cybersecurity summer camp hosted at PCC. Attendees will present their seminar project to NW Cyber Camp students.

Learning Outcomes: Attendees will be able to independently pursue additional cybersecurity education, attend Portland area cybersecurity events, and suggest student-appropriate cybersecurity activities within the local cybersecurity ecosystem.

Seminar Project: Attendees will finish preparing and present their teaching demo to high-school students.
