Event Details

Southern Oregon Education Service District (SOESD) invites local families and community members to the annual Wild River Pizza Fundraiser on February 12th, 2019 from 10:30 am to 10:00pm. A portion of the restaurant’s sales will be given to the SOESD Academic Brain Bowl team. Those funds will be used to send students to the Gallaudet Academic Brain Bowl Competition in Phoenix, Arizona, March 1-4th, 2019.

“This has been a life changing experience for the students that have participated over the past 20 years that we have been a part of this event.  The Deaf Academic Bowl reinforces a strong sense of Deaf Identity and the pursuit of higher education,” says Dale Balme, SOESD Hearing Program Manager.

Students and staff will be at Wild River throughout the event to hold a raffle, silent auction and answer any questions the public may have about their program.

Wild River Pizza is located at 2684 N. Pacific Hwy, Medford, OR 97501. Phone: (541) 773-7487.

What is Deaf Academic Bowl (DAB)?
Gallaudet University in Washington D.C., the only University in the world for Deaf & Hard of Hearing people, sponsors this event across the country.  There are five Regions that each hold 3-4 day competitions for 20 teams in each region.  The top two teams from each region go on to an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC for the National competition.

SOESD’s two teams (eight students and 4 coaches) will compete in Phoenix, AZ in March.  The money raised will go to pay for the students’ airfare.  Gallaudet University pays all expenses, accommodations and food at the completion.
