Foundations of Equity A: Identity, Implicit Bias, Microaggressions (section 4)

The Center for Public Education says, “Equity is achieved when all students receive the resources they need so they graduate prepared for success after high school.” This is one of three workshops on the topic of equity that we will offer this year. We hope that this will help to build a common vocabulary to discuss equity issues in our school systems. There will be credit options for teachers and those in IAL and CAL programs, in addition to PDUs. The two sections offered are the same content, offered twice to provide options for educators in our valley.
 
The Objectives of this workshop are:
  • Understand the concept of equity in education more deeply
  • Explore how we define identity
  • Understand the terms implicit bias and microaggressions more deeply
  • Begin to develop a common vocabulary to discuss equity issues
 
Please come prepared to adhere to the Norms for the workshop:
  • Be present (i.e. cameras on, no multitasking)
  • What is shared here, stays here (confidentiality)
  • Take risks and speak your truth
  • Be prepared to experience discomfort
  • Accept non-closure
  • Step up, step back (Speak up and give others space to speak up)
  • Respect everyone’s opinions and assume good intentions
