webPD ACEs 201 - SMBH - Term V 2023/24

Event Details


In this five week, five module, asynchronous online course conducted through Canvas (not Zoom), participants will delve more deeply into ACEs with a particular focus on more recent research about ACEs, Socio-Cultural interactions, and the brain and ACEs. We will explore what we educators can reasonably and realistically do to support children with ACEs in our classrooms and care, and what our schools and district can and should be doing to support parents and prevent ACEs whenever possible.

Learning Goals
  • Briefly review ACEs 101 introductory course information to set the stage for a deeper dive.
  • Learn about more recent ACEs research, data, and the Socio-Cultural interactions with ACEs.
  • Gain a deeper knowledge about the Neurosequential Model of the brain and the impacts ACEs can have brain development
  • Understand the relationship between ACEs and State Dependent Learning, the Arousal Continuum, and the 6 Core Strengths of Brain Development
  • Identify more strategies, resources and lesson plans for supporting children with ACEs in the school/classroom
The class is limited to 35 participants per cohort. Registration closes at 12 pm on Friday, June 7th, 2024. A confirmation email will be sent from Canvas to the first 35 registrants. Additional opportunities to take this course will be offered throughout the school year. You do not need to be a current Canvas user to participate in this course.

Note: This course qualifies for Southern Oregon University’s School Mental and Behavioral Health micro-credential. If you are interested in receiving SOU credit for participating in the SMBH micro-credential program, please click here for more information.
