webPD Universal Design for Learning (UDL) 201 - SMBH - Term V 2023/24

Event Details

In this more advanced five week, five module, online course, conducted through Canvas (not Zoom), we will continue to learn about and implement new UDL strategies, and work toward expanding your knowledge and use of UDL to meet your students' needs. We will focus on standards-based lesson planning, while offering students choice. (YES! You can offer choice and stick to standards!) More in-depth ideas and examples for using multiple means of expression, engagement, and representation in math, reading, writing, and science will be shared. Finally, participants will apply their learning by taking a traditional lesson and making it a UDL lesson. We hope this advanced level will help you feel like you are on the road to being a UDL educator.

Participants will:
  • Review the UDL guidelines and the research they are based on
  • Understand that UDL is standards-based lesson planning
  • Comprehend that beginning with assessment is the vital part of backwards design
  • Understand the strengths and limitations of different types of assessments
  • Identify strategies and resources for building choice into lessons from the beginning
  • Explore sample UDL lessons that illustrate multiple means of engagement, expression and representation
  • Apply UDL learning to transform a traditional lesson to a UDL lesson
The class is limited to 35 participants per cohort. Registration closes at 12 pm on Friday, June 7th, 2024. A confirmation email will be sent from Canvas to the first 35 registrants. Additional opportunities to take this course will be offered throughout the school year. You do not need to be a current Canvas user to participate in this course.
