At this half day training (8-11:30 am), Administrators and TOSAs will experience Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC) math practices.

Across the US and in Oregon, there is growing teacher enthusiasm around BTC practices. In a BTC classroom, K-12 students work on math tasks in collaborative teams. Fifteen years of research backs up these approaches: students engage more, learn more, and get excited about math.

We invite Oregon Administrators and TOSAs to this free event, hosted by math specialists at Clackamas and Multnomah ESDs.

You will:
  • Personally experience a BTC activity, in the role of a student
  • Learn about the research supporting these practices
  • Visit middle school BTC classrooms
  • Ask students and educators questions about the impacts of BTC
  • Hear guidance about how to best build and support BTC efforts in your school/district

Notes:
  1. This event will be hosted at Gardiner Middle School in Oregon City School District. You can arrive as early as 7 am; we will have a room open for participants who needs a work space before the workshop starts.
  2. We will have light breakfast items and may be able to provide lunch. Indicate dietary needs in the registration survey. We will follow up after registration with lunch information.
  3. Because we will visit classrooms, this workshop is limited to 20 participants. If this event fills, we will offer this workshop at least one more time this school year.
  4. We would love to include K-12 principals in this this workshop. We will help you support teachers who are already using BTC practices or kick off BTC work in your building.
  5. On Oct. 4, we are running a full-day BTC workshop for K-12 teachers. If you think this workshop is a good fit for any teachers in your district, please invite them to this session.

Check out this flyer to learn about all 24-25 BTC learning and support opportunities!
