At this full day training (8 am - 3 pm), K-12 Teachers will experience Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC) math practices.

Across the US and in Oregon, there is growing teacher enthusiasm around BTC practices. In a BTC classroom, K-12 students work on math tasks in collaborative teams. Fifteen years of research backs up these approaches: students engage more, learn more, and get excited about math.

We invite Oregon K-12 Teachers to this free event, hosted by math specialists at Clackamas and Multnomah ESDs.

You will:
  • Personally experience a BTC activity, in the role of a student
  • Learn about BTC Practices in "Toolkit 1"
  • Visit middle school BTC classrooms
  • Ask students and educators questions about the impacts of BTC
  • Prepare both non-curricular and curricular tasks for classroom use (bring at least one lesson/unit from your math curriculum!)

Notes:
  1. This event will be hosted at Gardiner Middle School in Oregon City School District. You can arrive as early as 7 am; we will have a room open for participants who needs a work space before the workshop starts.
  2. We will have light breakfast items and may be able to provide lunch. Indicate dietary needs in the registration survey. We will follow up after registration with lunch information.
  3. Because we will visit classrooms, this workshop is limited to 20 participants. If this event fills, we will offer this workshop at least one more time this school year.
  4. On Sept. 24 we are also running a half-day workshop for administrators and TOSAs. We would love to include your principal in this workshop, to help build understanding and support. Please invite them to this session!

Check out this flyer to learn about all 24-25 BTC learning and support opportunities!
