Event Description

Data Literacy for Continuous Improvement: One-Day Event for

Administrators, Instructional Coaches, and Teacher Leaders

THE WHY: Build a More Complete, Equitable Picture of Student Learning

Too often, decisions about students, teachers, and systems rely on incomplete data. This may lead to missed strengths, inequitable outcomes, and instructional decisions that don’t fully meet students’ needs. This professional learning is grounded in a core belief:

Data is not just about measuring performance. It is about understanding people.

THE WHAT: Develop Mindsets, Knowledge, and Practices for Data-Informed Leadership

Join us to build your capacity in:

Understanding Multiple Types of Data

  • Utilize state-approved data sources to garner a comprehensive understanding of literacy teaching and learning
  • Differentiate satellite (summative), map (formative), and street (daily) data

Applying an Equity-Centered Data Lens

  • Disaggregate data to uncover patterns
  • Center student strengths and assets, and use multiple sources to build a narrative

Using Data for Continuous Improvement

  • Apply or Adapt your Plan–Do–Study–Act (PDSA) cycle
  • Analyze whether instruction is working
  • Decide to sustain, adjust, intensify, or fade supports

Participants will also examine how data functions across systems:

  • Classroom: Real-time instructional decisions
  • School: Patterns, collaboration, resource alignment
  • District: Systems planning and accountability

THE HOW: Engage in Collaborative, Practice-Based Learning

We will be learning by:

  • Reflecting on personal data stories
  • Analyzing literacy and progress-monitoring case studies
  • Listening to others’ successes
  • Engaging in a Data Detective Challenge
  • Interpreting progress-monitoring data
  • Applying or adapting your PDSA

Action Planning
Participants will leave with:

  • A clear next step for improving data use and aligning with SB 141 guidance
  • Language and tools for data conversations

Outcome
By the end of the day, leaders will be prepared to:

  • Strengthen literacy instruction through continuous improvement cycles
  • Foster systems where data supports student success
