Event Details

Event Description

Led by Julia B. Lindsey, Ph.D.—respected literacy expert, former elementary educator, and author of Reading Above the Fray and Small Groups, Big Results—this engaging and inspiring session will bring research to life in ways that feel practical, purposeful, and deeply student-centered.

The Day:
Join us for a full day of learning focused on bringing structured literacy to life in your classroom. Together, we’ll unpack the book—grounding our work in shared understanding—while exploring the why behind structured literacy through research and the IES Practice Guides.

From there, we’ll dive into the how: the specific, high-leverage instructional routines and discrete teaching moves that make structured literacy effective and impactful for all students.

We’ll take a closer look at five critical routines that drive reading success:

  • The Alphabetic Principle

  • High-Frequency Words

  • Decodable Text (and its connection to knowledge building)

  • Chunking for word recognition

  • Repeated Reading for fluency

Finally, we’ll explore what it truly means to intensify instruction—how to scaffold, adjust, and respond to student needs while maintaining strong core practices.

This session is designed to leave you with clarity, practical strategies, and concrete routines you can implement immediately to strengthen literacy outcomes for every learner.
