Event Description

Come and learn more about a variety of aspects of Observation and Assessment in the Early Childhood Classroom or fine tune your current skills.  This cohort has a little bit of something for everyone charged with capturing an authentic picture of a child's development and planning curriculum based on the individuals needs. 

This is part of a 4 class cohort, participants must register and pay for all classes. Set 2 ORO hours for each class stands alone. Cost of the cohort is $60. The classes are as follows:

CKC: HGD | 1-3 hours | Set Two | ARC: IT/PS

Summary Description: From Goodnight Moon, Green Eggs and Ham to Mo Willem’s Elephant & Piggy series books are a beloved part of every early childhood program.  How did we get here and why do we read to young children anyway?  In this class participants will examine the history of children’s literature and how the use of books in the classroom enriches child development.

CKC: LEC | 1-3 hours | Set Two | ARC: IT/PS

Summary Description: The developmental benefits of reading to children are countless, how do you pick high quality books that will stimulate a life-long love of reading and promote critical thinking about the world around them?  In this class, we explore what makes a good books good and the skills practitioners need to stock their shelves with these and leave the bad ones out.

CKC: HGD |3-6 hour | Set Two | ARC: IT & PS

Summary Description: Developing a positive view of oneself is fundamental to every child's ability to learn and engage effectively with their world. In this training, we will explore how identity is presented in books and how to screen high-quality literature for families representing all types of identities.

(96705) Books! Marvelous! Magnificent! Meaningful! Module Four: Exploring Preemptive Censorship
CKC: DIV & PPLD |3-6 hour | Set Two | ARC: IT & PS

Summary Description:  States are banning children's books representing diverse types of social identities & limiting how social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion for every child & their family is taught in the classroom.  In this class we will explore what is being banned, why it is happening, who is being hurt & develop tools to select high quality literature that supports all family makeups.
