Understanding Procedures, Notifications, & Strategic Planning Considerations

Join us for an in-depth understanding of the Individual Education Program (IEP) process, focusing on procedural requirements and strategic planning for special educators and case managers. This training was developed with a focus on the K-12 setting and registration for this event is not a requirement to attend future IEP Foundation training. 

Here’s a summary of the key takeaways for learners:

1. Understanding Legal Obligations and Procedures:

   • Learn about Child Find, referral processes, and the legal obligations for evaluating children with disabilities.
   • Gain insights into the critical timelines, consent requirements, and the evaluation process from initial referral to IEP development.
   • Understand the Special Education evaluation procedure and the next steps in the process. 

2. IEP Development and Implementation:

   • Explore the essential components of an IEP, including measurable annual goals, specially designed instruction, and service delivery.
   • Understand how to develop an IEP that addresses the student’s unique needs and ensures progress in general education.

3. Collaboration and Effective IEP Meetings:

   • Best practices for preparing and conducting effective IEP meetings with a focus on teamwork, parent participation, and clear communication.
   • Learn strategies for engaging parents, resolving conflicts, and ensuring meaningful participation from all stakeholders.

4. Parent Rights and Participation:

   • Understand the rights of parents in the IEP process, including procedural safeguards and cross-cultural communication strategies.
   • Learn how to provide parents with notice and opportunities to participate in meetings, ensuring compliance with IDEA requirements.

5. Procedural Notifications 

   • Understand the difference between the different Procedural Notifications and how to document information accurately on each form.
   • Practice writing Prior Written Notices and understand the key components needed to make them legally sound.

You will be provided with practical checklists, sample agendas, and tools for effective IEP planning. This presentation equips learners with the necessary knowledge to develop educationally meaningful and legally sound IEPs, ensuring that students with disabilities receive the support they need for their educational success.
